So I decided to head out again this evening, 1st hit was another shell cap, I was happy about that. Moved to another area and had two hits side by side, 1st dig was the 1945 Nickel, then the bullet. Both got me excited thinking I was finding a good spot. It turned up nothing else. Moved around a little more, another nickel, a few pull tabs, etc etc.....then when I got back to clean up I noticed the differences in the two nickels! Could it be my 1st silver? It is lighter in weight, and softer in sound when tapped.....what a fun day! Yup. The one on the right is a nice silver war nickel. The mint mark should be on the back above Monticello. The other 1964 nickel is for some reason the most common in the world.

Nice job! It only gets better. Thanks for posting [emoji106]

Congrats on that first silver....you're in trouble now! You'll be totally addicted. Looking for the next oldest coin, that first Mercury dime or barber. Hope that's the first of many for you

Congratulations on your first silver. I believe war nickels are 35% silver. Any silver is great silver

First silver is the venerable OD nickel! Congrats!

The bullet is a 45-70 bullet. Made late 1800's - early 1900's. Congrats on your silver.

Thanks all, and thanks ScubaDetector, I was hoping to find out.

I love those silver nickels. They're called "war nickels" because of the war effort and saving nickel material. Always a pleasure to find! Congrats

in 4 seasons I have dug 4 war nics., found about 400 searching nickel rolls. same 5 gram weight as a regular nic but 42-45 with P D or S above dome is 35% silver. lucky lady finding that. get good at diggin' nics---they hit many detectors the same as GOLD

NICE JEFFERSON .

AIN'T THAT THE TRUTH !! I just thought 1964 nickels were popular because it's the year I was born..lol...but it seems like eevery other nickel I get back in change or dig is a 64...im glad somebody else noticed too..lol..ddf
