Decided to search a field right behind my daughter and son in laws home. I was out walking around the field with my Grandson a few weeks back, and noticed a lot of pottery shards. A quick phone call to the farmer (my son in law went to school with him) and I was in the field detecting. Gotta love small towns ! I pulled the flat button complete with shank and a back mark of Rich Gold. I don't know if its spelled color or colour, as that word is gone. Regardless, it's a nice old button. Kept detecting and found the silver '63 Washington. The pot metal bracelet and plastic button also appeared. Also found 30 pounds of iron which translated to $ 2.10 at the recycle place which is only 5 minutes away. It was a good time to empty the bucket. I think this field was used more as a dump, than a homestead being on it. I'm digging (no pun intended) into the history of it, but for now, will just keep looking around.

Any idea on the age of the button?
Look forward to seeing what else you pull from there. :)

I'm sure its going to be 1800's. I just don't know if its early - mid - or late. If there are any button authorities out there, please feel free to give an opinion. Maybe member Crusader will see this post.

Looks like that spot has a lot more potential to it. Some of the old "dump" sites can pay off at times. Looking forward to more.

Member Crusader has identified it as being from the early 1800's. Hope to get back to that field this weekend.
