Probably a letter opener but having something to gauge size would help. Is it 6 inches long or 6 feet long?

Tell your wife it is special... specially made to open letters. But ... it is an unusual one... the "idol" appears to be a "shiva" god... hindu.
It has good detail. try a search on the bay for "hindu letter opener" etc.
