Antique chair and would like to identify year/style/origin?

Hi,

We've been lugging around this old chair that I picked up at a thrift store in NYC about 18 years ago and have treated it not so nicely over the years. But, I really enjoy sitting in it and love the design. Hope to hold on to it for a long time and if possible, find out more about it (knowing very little about antique furniture). Any bit of information would be much appreciated!
