Found this in a resale shop when I wa out shopping and couldn't pass it up. They had 15.00 on it and I talked them down to 10.00. I wasn't sure about the age but thought it was old. Can you help me with the age and value.... It measures 12" long on the bed and the handles are 13" tall. The big wheels are 5" and the small ones are 4.5". Its heavy for its size...feels like the wheels and spokes are made from metal and the spindles on the body of the sleigh are made from cane, handlebars are metal, lights are metal, the braided decoration feels like leather. All of the hardware is slot as you can see in the pictures. I have more pictures if you want to see more but didn't know how many I could upload at a time.

That's pretty cool.Congrats :icon_thumright:

Looks more like a pram, (baby buggy) for dolls. Possible salesman sample too.

Do you think I should move it over to the doll section? I wasn't quite sure where to post it I wasn't sure what to call it. Can I put more pictures up or is that not allowed? There's so much more to this item then I can show with five pictures

Very cool old find. Post it wherever you would like. And, always, the more pics the better. Welcome.

Some more pictures

Here are some more pictures of the detail that was put into the construction of this piece.....

In my opinion it looks as if it were made to look old.Theres a few stores around here that sells stuff like that.Things that are antiqued, made to look older than they really are.

I agree with Red. I do not think it is old, just made to look that way. The construction is poor and it just doesn't look ''right''.

IMHO, the workmanship and appearance shout handmade and pre-1930's, so I am going to say 1910 through the teens. I believe it is a Baby Doll Sleigh/Carriage made for a child that appears to have had some repairs over the many years.

The link below shows some Sleigh/Carriages made for children during the Victorian Era which are somewhat similar to the O.P.'s Sleigh/Carriage.

At first I thought it was early but on closer inspection it looks like a recent reproduction cobbled together from various different pieces.

The screws for the axle "bearings" are very wrong for a period piece as are the strap bearings. The wheels have no wear whatsoever. The whole piece has been coated in a thick modern gel stain to make it appear to be all the same age and origin.

I'm guessing the piece was made as a decorative accent for a business that has a nostalgic look. As a decorator piece it probably has a lot more value than what you paid but as an "antique" it's a no go.

So I have two experienced board members here and one says it is an antique and one says it isn't. I'm not sure what to do from here. I really don't know any local antique shop that I feel comfortable with, but have dealt with a auction house in Seattle and they were really good and honest with the items that I sold. Maybe that is the way to go. What do you think??? ??? :dontknow:

You don't see any markings on it any where?
