I don't know a whole lot about buttons, but I think that design is 1870's. no doubt someone here will know for sure

I know the co was around until the 1940's but they also did civil war and prior. I think this is a latter button but i dont know.

Could the back mark possibly be Horstmann & Allien/ NY? It could date from 1852-77. When Big Cypress Hunter or The CannonballGuy gets here , they will elaborate on it.

Yes Fyrffytr1 it is allien thats what I couldnt fully make out! good call!

Its earlier than 1940's for sure, but post C.W.,better chances of CBG,or BCH seein it if you post it in whats it section

Thanks! I may repost it later. I couldnt pass it up for a quarter.

Oh that is a fine Pre Civil War button, I have one exactly like it that is a very good backmark. I collect pre war buttons purely for their backmarks, as there is a wide variety out there. Nice score, worth about $30 give or take a few bucks.
