Found a small, old distributor today while detecting along a stone wall. I'm guessing it's for a tractor, but I could be wrong. Any idea how old it is? Any guesses would be appreciated.
I looked at a few I thought it might be, but none match. I do agree it's for a 6 banger and all the ones I looked at don't have that slotted oil pump shaft, so if you find one with that type of coupling to the oil pump that could lead you to the answer. Looks 30's / 40s to me, but I don't know that for sure. I do feel good about this being solved if that helps you at all. Good Luck!
Thanks for all the input! I've tried to find this distributor on eBay and with a Google image search, but no luck. Must be pretty old or obscure. I'll mark this one as solved.
I believe it came from a Continental Type L engine. Starting around 1905/06 Continental built the engines for dozens of automobile, truck, airplane and farm tractor companies. Also engines for pumps, generators etc. There were two companies named Continental Engine / Motor co. PS: After more thought, It could have come a Continental Red Seal, from the 20's. Tony
I know it's marked Solved, but...
Pretty certain it's a Delco Remy; the style of the remnants of the cap clips, the cap alignment slot (yes they vary!), the shape and size of the oval badge gone missing, and the parts of the advance mechanism as Bruce pointed out.
This one from the early-mid 1930's is very close, maybe not exact: 1933 1934 Chevrolet Standard 6 Delco Remy Distributor | eBay
