Any clue what mineral this is?

We found this in a hard shell that we chipped away and inside was this beauty! We thought black obsidian but it’s nothing like glass. It’s really heavy and cold. Help me figure out this puzzle! Thanks

What state was it found in and can you give me the idea of the local geology?

Found in Wisconsin Ice Age were on the boarder Mamouth area

So the last pic was how you found it? how did you remove the surface material? looks maybe like the jade up that way they have been mining, or polished gabbro.
