Any Ideas

I came across this object about twenty years ago along a beach In Miguasha Quebec. This area is known for fossils but I don't believe this is one. Its non ferrous and is very hard. Does Iron lose its magnetism over time. Its about 2 and 1/2 inches in diameter and the rock seems to have overgrown over this item. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

It's millions of years old and is an artifact left by aliens during a visit to our planet. ::)

Seriously, though, you might take it to a geologist at a local university to see what he says.
