has the general shape of a side plate from some type of firearm but can't tell about any screw holes and the edge configuration.........

i think its too thick to be a side plate

It looks like part of the top to a wood burning stove. Removeable cover plates would go over the circular holes. If google would work for me Id attach a pic.
