Looks like a watch fob. Maybe had something to do with Lindburg's flight?
Just a guess.

That idea occured to me also. Although I had second thoughts, the more i looked at it it said transportation for some reason.

Nothing at all on the back. I am sure it is some kind of medal that was attached by a ribbon .

Not sure about the plane type and the ship on the left but the one in front appears to be a battleship. My thought was the "medal" to a campaign medal (ribbon and top piece missing).

The criss-cross structure as seen on the medal was a common feature on US Battleships early in the war which were later re-fitted with a more sturdy tower. Attached are two photos of the USS Maryland clearing showing the tower structure, one in 1942 and the other in 44 where you can see the differences after refit.
