Found this at my friends house first dig awhile back was a 1798 large cent later found a worn reale lots of buttons pottery etc

I'd say it's the top of a two piece button.

It's a fancy looking anchor, could mean lots of civilian things (including a logo);

''security, stability, and being grounded.''

I wouldn't say we have a full ID yet. The top of a fashion button at this point is only with 80-90% confidence. So it depends if that's enough to stop the search.
