It looks like the head of one of those nails they use to mark utility poles.

Hard to determine exact age but prolly less than 50 years.

It is really thick and I think pewter you cant tell in the pic but it has really fine cross hatch all over the whole thing

looks like a lead seal

Now that might be its pretty heavy for its size I didnt want to mess it up trying to see what it was made of I found it real close to a 1800s mill

My first thought was a lead seal too, but we could better determine if you could post a clear pic of the back. Breezie

I wish I could sorry ...but it says j81 has a perfect round indent in the center and some sort of iron sticking out of one place on the rim but is almost completly gone now

Lead Seal. Hard to date one with just numbers on it.

Yep, lead wire seal, google it and you will be overwhelmed with info.
Still used today and widely available.
