If you feel like knocking on doors take 220 south, theres some pretty nice places down that way. 1 in particular was an old house in a field on the right heading south, that just screamed old. I do me a bit of trucking down through there, I should start taking a camera. Also if you feel real adventurous dip down into NC, and keep watching to the left, theres some old places up behind a new shopping center.

Thanks for the idea Jeff but I'm pretty sure the boss is gonna have us working until 6:00 or later and then there may be those "required" group dinners. So I think I may have to hope for some quick locations near the hotel.

I did some work not too long ago at the Airport Holiday INN off of 220, I would just find out where you will be staying and check on mapquest for any local shopping centers you can park at and hit the woods areas behind them for an hr or two or any where close to 81 you can park at and venture into the woods or fields.

RJH, thanks for the reply. I did however receive some disheartening news last night from the director of parks and recreation for Roanoke county. According to his e-mail response ALL county or state owned property is strictly off limits to metal detecting.

Guess I'll have to spend my time at the hotel bar!!

Jeff, I actually found that post last night when I googled "metal detecting Virginia".......treasurenet posts show up frequently in google searches. Says a lot about the vast knowledge and wide ranging topics this website brings to the masses!!
