I tried posting to the NJ sub but there is little activity there. Anyways, I am new to the hobby having just purchased my first detector. Made the splash with an Ace 250. First say out I popped my first coin. Been out a couple of times since with little luck (found most scrap and junk). Whatever the case, I am sure I could use a good lesson and would really like to meet with a club or do a group hunt so I can learn a thing or two. My main problem is that I can't really pinpoint my target (the function on the detector is so so). I dig strong signals and end up finding nothing. I am sure I am doing something wrong so I was hoping a seasoned vet could point me in the right direction:)

I know there were several members up in your area and I'm sure they will chime in. As far as pin pointing with the 250, all you need is a bit more practice. It may also help to do the following.

If you have ever played golf, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. The good old lineup :tongue3:

1- When you first get the signal, they and hone in the best you can and pick a land-marker i.e. pebble, twig, etc

2- once you have that, just move 90 degrees and do it again, and see if the 2 still meet at the same spot.

3- If they do, bring in the backhoe and get to digging :tongue3:
