Any glass experts here?
I’ve got an oil lamp I’m trying to identify and it’s proving to be my most difficult one yet. I’m hoping someone will see it and say “oh that’s easy, it’s an Acme model 729” or whatever. But my searches have been coming up dry.
Here’s a photo of the important part…
That’s the “font” part of an oil lamp. Most likely 1870 to 1890. But here’s the problem.
It is *almost* a match to the Hobbs Bruckunier company “Loop and rib” pattern. It’s so close it would be easy to say that’s it. But it isn’t. The “loop” part isn’t a loop. It’s a bullseye or a flower petal or something. And so far I cannot find a match.
It’s very likely that the brass fittings would have patent dates or manufacturers marks or something, but they are too far gone to get anything off of. In fact they flake into pieces if you mess with them. So that’s out.
Does anyone recognize the pattern? I’m guessing it’s a variant or copy of the Hobbs design, but I could be wrong??
