Any roll hunters in Manhattan area?

Check out this article, this guy was on MSNBC this morning. He's trying to sell some coin books so he's creating publicity by spending rare coins. The ones I saw were a 1914-D wheatie, a 1909-S VDB and a 1908-S Indian head penny.

I've read about these stories before and as a 30+ year collector I gotta say it just burns me up.

There are so few of these rarities left that they shouldn't simply be spent at face value. Not at a time when most people I know throw pennies away. All it takes is one small ding or scratch and these coins lose 95% of their collector value. I cringe to think of a 1909-S VDB getting a deep circular gouge as it goes thru an automated coin counter.

Sure this'll get me thinking about coin collecting...about how many fewer choice examples of key dates are left because of stupid stunts like this.
