Hi !!

Might be a cigarette lighter (part of it).
I mean , lighter that runs on fluid, not gas.

But i may be wrong.... ???

Pozdrawiam Matejko

Hope you got the point...
I just realized that i don't know how to name this kind of a cigarette lighter in English.... :-\
Funniest thing is , I do smoke. ;D

Looks like a "match safe". They used to put stick matches in them. It looks like only the bottom half.
Nice find!

Thanks BK!!! I think you're right....a match safe....without the top! It is sterling silver...and has some markings......a google search quickly revealed some ornate similar match safes.....what a joy it was to uncover it!!! Thanks again!!

It should have a striker on the bottom. It will look like rough lines cut into the metal. I have one but not in silver. To have it complete would have been really nice. I would polish it up and just display it with the rest of the goodies. Or go back and look for the top. But I doubt it's around. That wouldn't have been a cheap item in those days.

I have one of those! Only my great-grandfather's name is engraved on it. My grandmother gave it to him for Christmas one year when she was a child. When I asked her what it was, she told me it was a "snuff box." Evidently he didn't dip, because it's as pretty as the day she gave it to him, and even has the little card inside saying, "To Papa from Sunshine" in a child's writing. It's a light-weight silver.

Hope this helps.

Thanks JerDfx ....its actually slightly crushed...and the bottom has been closed/pressed inward....but after slightly opening it just now....THERE is the striker surface on both sides.....I'll take some beteer pictures from the bottom and sides and repost as soon as I can...

Noodle....can you post a picture of yours?? I'd love to compare it

Thanks again!! :)

GoingDown, here's some pics of mine. Pretty little thing, isn't it? I tried to get it from all angles, including the bottom, which does have the strike lines. I think you can make out the "sterling" inside the lid line also. The box in one pic is the original from a jewelry store in Little Rock, Arkansas. The note says it's from Christmas 1912.

Do you think this is what yours is also?

Going to take two posts to get all the pics on. Keep going...
