Hi Illinois metal detectorists,
I know that metal detecting is illegal in all Cook County forest preserves, however, I can't help imagining what it was like when we had free rein to explore them. From what I understand from reading a lot of history in the region, the forest outside of Bachelor's Grove cemetery had some of the oldest European pioneers and I have seen a few of the cellar hole and foundation ruins by just hiking through this forest (sans metal detector).
Are there any veteran Illinois detectorists who had the pleasure of detecting this forest back in the day and if so, what kinds of relics did you find? I wonder if it was detected a lot when it was allowed.
