Pretty heavy duty. Found in an area that likely dates to 1900 or maybe earlier. Perhaps mining related or logging? Could be early road construction related. Blacksmith shop not far away, but this IS cast. 5 miles from any ag related industry. Old telephone poles nearby that date to the early 1920’s. Definitely getting lag bolted to something in the future.

The shape is very purposeful, but I’m at a loss.

Looks like it could be from a tractor something for holding an implement.

AI says it’s a tank hatch from a WWII Russian T-34 tank or a convertible top bracket for a 66’ T-Bird. You guys can do better?

Hi Tesorodeoro,
I believe it to be a cast iron "Boot Scraper".

How big is it?

Maybe a lifting eye for something heavy.

From the wear mostly being on the top you can see it was most likely used with some sort of hitch. Maybe a pintle hitch?

I would expect round stock to be used. There are only two bolt holes. Also it’s tapered.

To get any length of a lag through you would need to downsize the diameter because of the conflict with the ring. I'm thinking iron to iron bolted attachment. Are those holes threaded?

All I have is a WAG, the 4th photo at the very bottom is the wear part, especially around the top of the loop. Blow up that photo and there looks to be some chainsaw file marks added for traction at some time with some of those worn off. The chainsaw goes back to the 20's so that type of file was around then. If logging and chalk (spike) boots were used, although mostly for log rafting, they do not grip well on iron. Is there a river close by?
With only two bolts a guess would be an equipment step. Good find, I hope this gets solved.

Yes it was found in a steep canyon river environment with no valley. Just a wagon road passing by.

I’d like to address every post offering help, but let’s let these photos soak? And ya that’s a thumbnail trying to grow back.
