***EDIT***
I don't like the way my coin photo setup makes this looks dull.
Added another photo to show loop and different lighting....

Hit the fairgrounds for about 2 hours today.
Found a boned out 1913 Wheatie and this old flat button.
I knew the target was old because it was down around 8" where all the deep coins I have found are.

What little research I have done dates it to around mid 1800's.

Any info from you button experts would be appreciated.

Happy hunting....

R & W Robinson/Attleboro dates from 1835 to the 1840s. It is a long story but basically they made both civilian and military buttons. Because their civilian buttons fell out of favor they were bankrupt by the mid 1840s. But, because military buttons bearing their backmark date after 1850 they may have lasted into the mid 1850s. Since two piece buttons became popular in the late 30s-early 40s I think it would be safe to say your button dates from 1835-early 1840s.
