Anyone ever get to Devens?

Hi all,

Has anyone from MA done any MDing on Devens? I know part of it is still millitary owned (fenced areas) as far as I know (my dad works there in a private business) the rest is now public and private. Any thoughts? Immagine the finds there if we could go there? Wow.

I would think you'd have to find out exactly what parts were public.... and then find out from the corp. that runs the place if MDing is allowed there......
If your Dad works there, maybe he could find out who you'd have to speak to....

I've heard that there's a corporation that runs the place now.... it's like it's own city or something....
so I would think they would be the ones who would make the rules....

Could be an interesting place that's for sure.....

You are right it is really a city of it's own. I know there was talk of getting there own zip but I think it was shot down. There is a Fed. Pen. there FYI.

Is mirror lake on the old fort ? I haven't heard of it....

I'm sure there would be some good places on the old post if there's access to them.....
It's only about 20 minutes from me......

I know gardner all too well. However I wouldn't know where to begin to hunt. Lets get working on a group hunt maybe before the ground freezes?

One of the places I'm trying to research is an old house that was a silversmith shop in the late 1800's.... but I'm running onto stumbling blocks trying to find out who owns the proterty now.... Doesn't look like anyone's living in the house right now, or I'd knock on the door....

Well just think if no one owns it anymore and it is just abandoned property that would work in your favor wouldn't it?

Not necessarily ~ that's a gray area....
BUT... if the city took it over and it became city land that would help.... I gotta take a trip down to city hall... haven't been able to find out much on line... guess it's time to put the feet to walkin'...

No, I haven't tried old Fort Devens. If you are willing to deal with all that government hassle there, you should go for Fort Knox.

I have been in alot of parts of old with my expII found silver from the 1900's and up some old buttons from WWI AND WWII and alot of shells from m14, m1, 249B, 240, m9....................
All I did was just go out in my uniform and no hassle, I spend two weeks a year and I go out when ever I can. If you need a good toppo map let me know in a PM.
