Not Jamaica, but if you ever go to Mexico, Domincan Republic, or the Virgin Islands you should be ok. I have taken mine to these places without incident. I must say I only hunted on the Ocean fronts. Never went inland to dig in the dirt.

Did you carry on your detector or put it with luggage?

I ALWAYS carry it on in its original box. The only problem I have ever encountered, are TSA agents that want to know what I find, how much it costs, yadda-yadda-yadda. I always give them my card and tell them to get in touch.

When you get to Jamaica, try and find a LOCAL swimming spot. I have good friends on the Island, so I was able to hit spots tourists never see. Good Luck!

From what I just read on another forum, taking a detector (Jamaica) is now forbidden. I am not verifying that information; just passing it along. I don't know if it is ok to mention the other forum, so you'll have to find that yourself.
