Found this a couple of weeks ago at a old college site 1880's now a small town public school. I think its Chinese, but in my research so far I have only seen coins with square holes. If anyone has a internet site they know that has chineese coins on it that would be great also. Thanks for the help in advance. JYD

Forgot to mention that it is the same size as our nickel and brass, copper or bronze. Thanks. JYD

No clue! :D

I know this type started around 1959, and I believe the same basic design is still in use.

Pretty sure it says Year Heisei 5 (5th year of the Heisei Dynasty). That's 1993 to us in the western world.
