PS: to above.......You may also wish to contact the Postmaster at the Huntingdon PO ((814) 643-4430)and ask him if he has any 1935 history on that POB #

Tried the P.O. there, no readily accessible records. Must've been a lodge of some sort.

I collect lodge swords, and the tag seems to use the type of vernacular that may have been used back then. There were over 700 secret societies in this country, but most died out after WW1

BTW,'protective committee' means a group of security holders or preferred stockholders appointed on liquidation or reorganization of a corporation.

That makes sense, a lot of lodges evolved into insurance companies. Woodmen of the World is one in particular. Most of the lodges had ins. benefits and death benefits and when they went defunct due to lack of membership or whatever, their assets were bought out.

Mark this as solved, I called the bank in question, got a 35yr. employee. She told me the tag is from a leather courier bag, and they have a similar tag on display in their lobby but dated 1941. Very nice lady, kept me on the phone for 45 minutes. No idea how the thing got from Huntingdon all the way up to Shamokin,or why.
