Anyone know what this is....?

I just started hunting yesterday and spent about 2 hours in a local park. I found a bunch of junk and 3 coins (2 quarters and a penny)..... I also found 2 "rocks" that sent my detector off the charts. I have no idea what it is, so if anyone has any info please let me know. The picture make it look brown, but it's really very black.

Matt it may be what Jeff said , and it could be what we call hot rocks , they have a high metal content and it is enough to set off the detector , there are some areas that have quite a few of these rocks laying around .
But as you have a photo maybe someone on here who really knows what type of rock that is will let you know !

Hey Jeff, thanks for the reply. The two rocks I found are very light, almost smooth to the touch and seem very porous. Any help....? Also who would I take these to for info..??

tuff to find someone in most areas who knows rocks.
perhaps a University.

I would guess If Light , most likely not of Value.

Did you try a strong Magnet ?
