I dug out this thing from 10.5 inches down near a giant walnut tree. It immediately looked familiar and yet it doesn't. Just some scrap metal I'm sure, but the familiarity of it is driving me crazy.

My first thought was something horse-related, but i haven't been around that stuff since I was 8 years old so i really don't know what it would be. It is going to keep me up at night thinking about it....about 3 inches long by the way and the threaded piece is welded to the D-shape handle?

WTHis it.webp

It could be part of a D-ring snaffle bit. I used them when braking and training horses.

Looks similar to a rod rest but not quite.

Interesting recovery! :occasion14:

Im reminded of a sling for a rifle

It's almost definitely part of a D ring snaffle. I've got about four or five snaffle bits in the barn. About three inches is the right size. Is it iron?

Yes, it is iron

I'm almost positive that is what it is.

The threaded part makes it unlikely to be a horse bit, My guess is that it is a step for a horse drawn buggy.
