anyone seen anything like this, button?

Found today little button or pin, cant tell for sure. It is a little over 1/2 inch dia. How should I go about cleaning it? it is brass or copper I think. Any info would be great. Found in Mid Missouri.

Maybe the studded screw out of a handle on a hand saw Does it look like anything was attached on the back?

I agree, that it doesn't look button like, but no idea whats its off.
