Hey there. Total newbie talking from New Zealand. Looking to buy my first metal detector second hand, and looking at a Minelab XT 18000. I am aware that it is a gold detector, but I don't know if it can be used practically for coin hunting etc, which would be my main past time. Can anyone advise. And is this detector any good, too old?????????

Look forward to hearing back. I've been following this forum for a few weeks, it's very interesting.

I have a whites Goldmaster v/sat that I have been trying out in the yard, have found a few coins but lots of junk also. Did find a Susan B yesterday. but dug alot of foil and tabs. So if you like alot of digging. they will work great. May be to sensitive. and mine doesnt have discrimination. So I am looking at getting a good coin machine. hope this helps.

If you want to get a detector thats good all around for both you should get the MXT. I have one anyd they are great all around detectors
