Hi guys, I am a water hunter and found these lead balls while detecting a beach. The beach has been used since the 1700's because I've been finding a lot of old artifacts, I know this used to be an old village there because when they developed the resort they found bodies while doing construction. Are these musket balls? Just curious because they don't look like fishing leads because no hole etc.. Can someone help identify these for me? Thanks and I hope I get a positive response... Aloha

without actually handling the - Id say yes
Ive found many over the yrs from a dozen of New Eng. bchs that have colonial houses near by
flat buttons too to back them up

the top one appears to be a SPLIT sinker.

I think you hit the nail on the head on that one Dew, I've got a lot of musket balls and I think your right.

There is no split, its a seam. I know what a split sinker looks like because I go fishing. Its just a seam from a mold. There aren't any holes or anything to tie line to, it is definetly not a split sinker. It looks like it but its a mold seam... I've been finding things that is associated with the time period in the water. So my guess is that it is a musket ball....

he should put a coin in pic for size
but I have some with seems - depends on mold they were cast from

The top one looks a little larger than the bottom so I a guessing the top is a .69 caliber and the bottom one is a .54 caliber musketball. Nice finds!
