arm & hammer

Sorry no pics.--Yesterday, I found a metal disc a little larger than a quarter and a little thicker than a nickel and could be brass. On the front it says Church & Co. Soda with the arm & hammer logo in the center. Does anyone know if this came off some sort of package? Ive learned Church & Co. was formed in 1867 and became Church & Dwight Co in 1896. On the back there is a groove about the size of a dime cut into it, therefore I think it was used some way in the package of the product. Anyone know anything about the use or date of this item?--Thanks!

Re: arm & hammer

I'm not sure what you have and once PBK can see it I'm sure it will get IDed. From your discription it sounds like it may be some sort of seal for a bag that contained Church & Co Soda (baking soda). Good luck on the IDing.

See what I mean....I was just looking online be fore I posted to see if I could find the token and PBK beat me to the punch.

Re: arm & hammer

funny thing church chemicals used many symbols on their packaging at first to try to get a "brand" name loyal customer base---and since the arm and hammer symbol was the most popular one (according to sales)---it stayed around and became their "brand" name over time---it became rather famous ---today most folks know of "arm and hammer baking soda" in the yellow box---most likely ones in your fridge---who knows about church chemicals?---Ivan

Re: arm & hammer

It is my understanding that Church & Dwight Chemical, originally started in Solvay, NY(near Syracuse) was responsible for manufacturing Arm and Hammer baking soda. I am not sure if their plant here in Central NY is still running but there may be other locations. The power plant that I used to work for 5 years ago used to supply steam to the Church & Dwight plant in Solvay.
