I've detected In the town of Arnold's Park, Milford, Okoboji, and Spirit Lake. Lots of history and tourist action for over 100 years. The beaches on West lake Okoboji and in the water have been best for me. Be aware of what is state property and what is not. The actual amusement park is state owned now and off limits but the beach right in front of it is good.
