I don't know anything about Indian artifacts But Congrats on the Finds !

Nice arrowheads. Is there anyway you could get pictures that are more in focus? Natural light should be helpful.

a good camera is top on my list, thanks for the input

Those are some good finds. I do a lot of indian artifact hunting, so from the pics I can only say that most native american stone axeheads have a rounded back to them not a flat back and a axehead some of the time have grove around where they tied it on to a handle. It is still a cool rock, would like to see more pics of them. The points look to be arcahic period and are they made from quartz.

I believe they are quartz, in southern md. river and bay area there are no rocks to speak of, and not the pristine flints out west, fishing was a major food, they taught us how to make fish 'traps' that are still used today !

Kevin just keep looking in the area you are hunting, bodys of water are great for artifact hunting due to wave action. In this part of the woods we have chert stone and not much more, but a lot of other type of stone was brought in thur trade. Along the Mississippi river any ridge or hill top had native americans living there, I have found points, pottery, and gameing stones in my front yard. My wife is not real happy when I talk about digging up the yard.

Great finds. Here in Madison ,Wi, we have what they call Indian effigy mounds. They are scattered around the area. No one knows for sure their purpose. Some have said they are burial ground, some say its treasures, some say they were made out of respect for the earth. They are in shapes of Bison, birds and the like. There are a few of them in the city parks, and it is so tempting to detect them, but I shy away out of respect. i do always keep my eyes open for arrowheads and such when I am out detecting.

I have done some research on the mounds in your area, and was lucky enough to be in on a state sponsered dig of one effigy mound. Native americans had great respect for animals, and thought they held mistic powers. Most people belive they built the mounds to invoke the mistic powers of that animal, they used the mounds for burial. Flat top mounds where used for a lodge/temple. All the mound builders in my area where sun worshipers and death cults.
