Arrowhead or just another pretty rock?

Hi All,

Finally getting back to hunting after recouping from a couple of surgeries.

I'm still quite the novice, but it's fun even looking & hoping to find any artifacts!

So, is this my "First Official Find," or just another pretty rock? (lol)

I located this while hiking a shallow creek in the Cook County region of Northern Illinois, about 20 miles southwest of Chicago.

If it is, in fact, an arrowhead, would anyone on the forum know the type? Approximate age? And what type of rock?
P.S...sorry the pics are appearing sideways; unsuccessfully tried to correct.

That's called a flake. It is an artifact. Flakes like that were used as expedient knives, then tossed when they got dull. Since the material is pink, it has likely been heated. Heating makes it easier to chip and also changes the flint so it has a much sharper edge. The trade off is that a heated flake gets dull quicker but it a lot sharper than raw flint. Gary
