Artifact or ocean animal's home? Please help!

I found this on the beach in an artifact rich area on California's central coast. Seems like sand stone. I realize that ocean animals make holes in rocks that look like this all over the place, but this one is odd enough with the hook shape and tiny hole on opposite side that I had to ask. Thanks!

Interesting rock, can you show more pictures of the hole and where it comes out in relation to the rock. Does it come out in the deepest part of the rock recess?

Hole does not go all the way through

I would say natural erosion without actually holding and just by what I see in your pictures.

That is a very cool rock and one I would have kept myself, but I don't think it is man made without putting it under a scope. Welcome to T-net:hello:

It's a unique looking piece but something about it tells me its not manmade.

Almost looks like there was some sort of hook that was hollow on the inside, filled with sand, the sand hardened and shrunk, then fell out. Maybe some oils or other chemicals helped to harden the sand?

Very interesting!

Natural erosion by pictures...
