Hi everyone. My friend and I were trying to figure out what this might be part of. We’ve been stumped. It’s roughly the size of a half dollar. Can anyone weigh in please?

1 side of a clasp for a multiple strand necklace?

I think it is a an old piece of rope jewelry, probably a necklace, that once had tassels or dangling chains, similar to the mock-up I made below.

A long time ago I saw something very similar to this attached to the bottom end of a servants bell pull. If you remember the original Addams family, Morticia frequently used one to call for Lurch.

I thought about that possibility, too, but the size of the whole thing (being that of half dollar) and depth of the "socket" made me shy away from that idea.
