AT PRO 5x8 Coil

Anyone done any field testing?
Better than the stock coil?

The problem I had with that coil was after I put it on I never wanted to take it off. My stock coil is still on the shelf. enjoy

It has made my old permissions new again...kicking myself for not using it earlier.... The 11X8 may give you a bit more depth, but doesn't see as well as the 5X8.... Pinpointing is spot on, can't miss.

I could tell you haven't been on here long without even looking at your date [emoji4] It's the coil the AT Pro should have come stock with like the Gold. You will love it.

On top of what has been said above it is not as heavy as the stock coil and easier to swing which is another plus.

I like the 5x8 especially in the water and like it a lot but I think I like the CORS 5x10 better on land. It has a little more coverage with slightly more depth.

I was looking at that coil too...how many hours you have with it?...really better?

I haven't used it but a few minutes at best. It has been 95+ degrees here and I mostly have been doing a little bit of water hunting using the 5x8. I only compared the 2 coils in my test bed.

This is great! I'm glad I bought the smaller coil when I ordered my ATPro.

If Garrett sold new AT Pro's with the 5x8 coil on them, nobody would buy the 8.5x11. It's that much better. The only place that the 8.5x11 comes out on top is in a huge, wide open field, with no trash in it. The other 99.9% of the time, the 5x8 is the way to go, for all the above reasons and more. The lighter weight alone is worth the price of admission.

Love mine, I hardly ever use the stock. The weight alone is a huge benefit, as for depth I really see no difference. Easy to pinpoint and distinguish targets. Can get into the small spaces and right against walls and trees

I've had my 5x8 for a year. Great in a trashy ball field. Plenty of coinage and rings. I use the larger coil for open fields and when I'm searching for relics. The 5x8 help me find a 1845 LC at 9" right next to a piece of iron.

I did a field test digging two holes at 7" and 9" deep. I put a quarter in each hole and swung the coil. The small coil had a harder time in the deep hole until sensitivity was at max. The large coil had no problem.

Then I put a nail in each hole 1" from the quarter and re-swung.
With the small coil it was easy to tell there were 2 things in the hole...not so much for the large coil.

Pro zero mode with iron disc at around 20 I think.

I know you pros will think this a remedial test, but it convinced me that the small coil is good for trashy house sites and the large coil for open spaces and penetrating a little deeper.
