I have found a few small chunks of metal that I can't figure out what they are, not the typical wadded melted tinfoil either.
Whats strange is the ones in this pic are ringin 50's through 78 the bullets are 50 solid and the other was 64 solid... then there is a piece of metal that is 78 on the ID... I scraped them all with a knife and the metal is shiny and soft...
THey can't all be lead can they? What does the ATPro id lead at normally? I have had accurate 55's and knew they were pulltabs, I dug them, I also had plenty of 70's (Screwtops) but the chunks of metal and huge variation in ID number range is buggin me,,,ANy help or experiences with small chunks of metal and the ID's they ring at, would help me understand this a little more.

put a torch to them and note the melting point

Just like any other metal, the # will change based on the size, weight, and shape of the item. I've had .22 short bullets come in in the low foil range, normal, current bullets come in from the 50's all the way through 80's if they have a jacket. I think my last musket ball came in around 68??

Diggin the wood-chips at the playground? It seems they have a ton of miscellaneous metal chunks mixed in where I am. You are correct in they ring anywhere from the 40's to the mid 80's based on size and consistency. Some of the chunks I can tell were fasteners, plugs, etc.. that looks like they went through the wood chipper. I gave up on trying to identify the metals since they are so abundant and vary in color and weight.

THanks, I will torch them, i'm just trying now to figure out what they are from. since there was a fire at one time at this old house, I imagine it is junk melted, but I want to make sure it wasn't silver as in spoons or plates and what not.
