I bought this coin the other day as a mint state piece, but

upon further investigation I'm not completely sure. I'm not experienced enough to tell between au58 and ms60. I hope these pictures are detailed enough

Edit-- thought you were asking ifnit was ms 65..The image shows cracks/scratches on the front. As far as I can tell that is ms-65

That will never make MS65 IMO. It looks AU58 on the obverse....a whizzer....due to the scratches. It's also not a very good strike. It was probably only a MS 61or 62 when it came out of the die. I'm only going by the photo....it could be a little different in person with better first hand inspection.

I've been trying different picture techniques, I don't know if you can get anything extra from theseDSCN1928.webpDSCN1932.webp

Kinda hard to tell w/out the coin in hand. From the pic it looks like it has a light rub on the high pts. It you roll it in the light, an AU coin will show slightly dull areas at the high pts which appear to be a different shade. I'd guess AU58 from the pic.

Two problems that I see with the coin. 1) The coin has a soft strike thus is lacking in sharp details. 2) The coin appears to have had an old dipping and now many years later, it showing up as streaking and smears. I still think that the coin would grade out at close to MS-62 but suffer from notations for the old dipping.

It shows some scratches on the obverse from possibly being improperly cleaned. Judging by the lack of wear on washington's hair, I'd say it's uncirculated. Not sure how it would grade out though.
