I would like to know if this coin could be and authentic one, i bought it at an estate auction. It has and certificate of authenticity from Treasure Salvors Inc. The coin was glued to the certificate when i bought it. The coin has a denomination of 4 Reale, the mint is Potosi, its weight is 11.40, and its grade is 3, the coin number is 85a-202959

Nope.
The whole point of a photo certificate is that the photo on the certificate matches the artifact, kinda like this...

a1.jpg

...not to mention that 4 Reales weren't gold...

But don't despair ust yet. If that gold coin is authentic, it's worth A LOT more than a random Atocha 4 Reale... It would be quite amusing if some unknowledgeable estate sale professional found an Atocha certificate and a gold Escudo in the same estate and in an attempt to 'juice up' the item, mindlessly pared them together and wound up selling a coin worth significantly more than what they thought they were 'tricking' people into believing it was... It's entirely possible that someone was trying to screw you, but wound up screwing themselves instead. I sure hope that gold coin turns out to be authentic and that's the case :icon_thumleft:

Kinda like that footage of the woman in the gas station who scratched off a lottery ticket, before they used scanners to process them... It was a loser (or so she thought), so she left the store, took a ball point pen and carefully changed one of the "$1"'s to a "$5" then took it back into the store to redeem it... The clerk recognized the fraud, called the cops and she was arrested. In looking over the ticket, turns out it was actually a $5000 winner. She was so used to looking for $1 and $5 winners that she completely overlooked the fact that the ticket had three $5000's on it- and invalidated it in the process ;D

As mentioned above by Morgan, just looking at the outline of the photo image on the Certificate and comparing to the 'coin' itself, one can quickly see the photo and the 'coin' are not the same. Most likely you have a replica of another coin.
Don.....

Well thank you, now id just like to know what type of coin or if the coins authentic, thanks for your help, and if i did get screwed oh well i only paid 5 dollars for the thing.

Im pretty sure its fake, but ill take some more pictures of it, it can never hurt to know what i have.

WOW that thing is the size of a small pizza... ::) If it's gold you're a gazillionair.. :notworthy: Please resize your pics. As the others have already said though, it dosn't match the pic on the certificate so the certificate itself is of no value. Unless of course you could find the guy who owns the coin in the pic.

Not to shure how to resize the images.

Got em for ya. :icon_thumright:

This is how I do it - Its quick once you do a couple and requires no downloads for most computers.
________________________________________________________________

-Open the program "Paint".

-Then click "File" and then "Open". This will bring up the folders/files on your computer.

-Select the file you wish to work with.

-With the file/image open click on "Image". This will open a drop down menu.

-From the drop down menu, click "Stretch/Skew". This will open another box.

-In this box you will see "Stretch" with options for "Horizontal" and "Vertical". The %'s for these will be at 100.

-Change the value from 100 to your new percentage (either shrinking or enlarging) and click OK.

-Save the newly sized photo as a new file so as to retain your original.

Oh Lord, Please let be gold, please let it be gold, please let it be gold!!!! :notworthy:
