That's a neat find! I have dug these before and it always seemed like too much work to figure out the date!

The picture on the left tells the Emperor who reigned when the coin was minted. The top marking on the picture on the right is BOO and appears on coins from the Ching dynasty. This one is Emperor Hsuan Tsing 1821-1850. I have found a number of the Chinese cash coins over the years. I was told a long time ago that they were used as fashion decorations during the 1920s and 30s. The Calgary coin website has a complete listing of cash coins to help as a reference if you ever find another.

That's a nice find. The Chinese cash coins were actually quite popular here in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
