Well, me and Oldschool braved the wicked wind and hit a house site. Is is kitty corner from a field that we got skunked in. Oldschool wasn't in the field 3 minutes when he pulled a nice Civil War Storecard from Troy, NY. While I was looking at that one he gets a signal, digs and pulls another store card. This one is a patriotic, Army & Navy. Man what a start!! Then a few minutes later I finally got my first coin........another STORE CARD!!! This one is from Piqua, OH. Wow, 3 store cards in just a few minutes. I then got a 1860 Indian (holed) and then a 1868 Shield Nickel. Man, we gotta pound this field. HH all. Dan

Great finds! Sometimes braving the winds and making those kind of finds makes you forget just how cold it is.

sweet finds.
its encouraging to people like me to see older stuff being dug here in MI.
Forgive my ignorance, i've only been MD'in since last fall, but are store cards and "trade tokens" the same thing? ANd could they be used in stores other than the ones they were from, "exchanged" as it were?

Rando, IMO,I believe store cards are more along the lines of advertising than anything else. The proprieter might have allowed them as currency in their own store at face value. :icon_scratch: Trade tokens are a bit different..they might say 2 1/2 cents, 5 cents, etc. off on merchandise in that particular store (kind of like today's coupons) or they'll say "Good for---". Wouldn't be suprised to find that they were also used in poker games as currency if the business was close enough. Once the person having them gets too far away from the area, then it's most likely they'll toss 'em aside as it's too much hassle to go back and exchange them.

Any day finding CW era stuff is Awsome!!!! Great stuff!!! Keep at it!!
