Axe (?) head after electrolysis

Found this on a site where we've found numerous 18th and 19th century relics. Didn't take any before pics but these are after a week soak in electrolysis. Any ideas on what period this is from and exactly what sort of tool this was? Thanks for looking.

Thanks. Spike tomahawk sounds right however I haven't seen any online with a solid handle. Mine doesn't have a hole for a handle but looks like it may have been one piece(?)

Nice find. There was a huge Indian and colonist battle near where I live, but even if detecting was permitted, I doubt I could work this area over. Ought to be quite a few artifacts there if other detector users haven't already hit it hard and I know of at least 3 people in this area who metal detect.
