I found an old axe head in the woods today, anyone got any idea how old it might be, I've got it going in electrolysis right now. I also found part of an old Regen's lighter, shotgun shell, memorial cent and a bullet in some wood. When I found the bullet I read it in a decaying log, first I move the log and the signal moved with it, I hacked out out of the log, very easy too.

No help here but congrats on your finds

Thanks Art, it's been a while since we were in contact, I won't go to the Whites forum anymore because I just can't take deoleslyfox, he's really a jerk and there's many people that abandoned the forum because of him. I've been doing a lot of squirrel hunting recently too with my airguns (another addiction started from metal detecting), last year I found an airsoft pistol in the woods with my metal detector, repaired it and it's been another raging addiction since.

Thanks vpnavy!!! I just just soldered new clamps on my electrolysis setup cause the ones that were on it were shot, I need to buy some more because metal detecting season is on it's way and I use my electrolysis setup a lot for certain things, the axe head is starting to look better now but I'll post a pic in this thread when I'm finished with it. With the iron objects I always get them to the point that I like then I'll bake them at 300 degrees in a toaster oven with a coat of vegetable oil on them ;D

When you finish cleaning up that puppy - post it!

Well I'm making some progress, doesn't look like there's any writing on it, definitely going to be doing more electrolysis yet, I think this one will be worth buying a handle for ;D

Congratulations on a sweet axe.
Nice job on the electrolysis.

Nice looking axehead and getting even better looking as you clean it up - Nice find! :icon_thumleft:

Yes, great axe head. You definitely need to put it back into action

Thanks for all the great replies everyone, upon closer inspecting I noticed that it's flatter on one side more than the other, come to find out it's a hewing axe or hachet for making square logs or whatever.

Yesterday I decided to head down to the True Value hardware and buy me a handle for it and manage to spot just the one that I wanted, it's a 16" hickory handle, just what the doctor ordered ;D

Now you gotta build your self a log cabin.
