Can anyone date this for me? I found it 10'' deep in the front yard of a home built in 1782 in Western Massachusetts.

I will date her but she looks a big cold and rusty...but no worse than my past dates I guess. I will pick her up around 8 p.m. and have her home by midnight.

Someone should 'in time' post a pic, of the AX head chart , that I should have saved .
It has styles & dates.
Nothing is For Sure but I put faith in the info.

I like to dig complete Ax Heads (don't like to carry them all day)lol

IMO yours look's old & hand Forged , now get the rust of of the Socket .lol

I love to nit pick , also love yr electrolysis set up , it shows simple Works Well.

I'm definitely glad I found this in close proximity to my car , humping this around for a few hours would not be fun.
I was wondering what I should do about the rust in the socket because there seems to be some leftover wood from the handle in there as well. I'm leaning towards leaving the wood cause it ads to the story of the axe but I gotta figure out a way to stop the rust. This was my first attempt at an electrolysis rust removal method and I'm hooked can't wait to try it on something else. Thanks

As it appears to be forged, late 18th to early 19th century.

That's great news , thanks
