Yesterday I got a chance to head uptown and do a little digging in the dirt. I had not found any silver since August 4th. About 4 hours into the hunt, a nice shiny silver Roosevelt Dime made it's appearance. There was also an abundance of Wheat Pennies. (Fourteen in all).
I noticed that these pennies were coming out of the dirt in pretty good shape. I always try to clean at least the date area before taking pictures and posting. When I got to the very last Wheat Penny, to my surprise, it turns out to be a 1909. No mint mark or VDB initials, but still. a first year issue. It's in pretty good shape.
I also chased a "98" which could be Iron on the DEUS but this time it turned out to be a 3 foot section of brass handrail.
All in all, a pretty good hunt that netted 83 coins including a 1959 Ten Centavos from Mexico.

Nice hunt and always good to see any silver. Congrats.

Good digs. Feels good to get that silver. Especially after several unsuccessful attempts.

looks like a nice place to relax and swing a machine. That's a lot of wheat, congrats.

Way to go ATW. Glad you jumped back on the silver bandwagon.

Well done ATW.

Congrats on the Wheat harvest and Rosie ATW, :occasion14: you always seem to find the good targets where ever you swing the coil.

Nice haul! Congrats on getting back on the board with silver!

Congrats! That's a great haul.

Nice big piece of brass there. Do you keep the brass for scrap?

Lots of old targets also. Looks like a super place to play in the dirt. Nice

Looks like you had a good day and silver to boot, Awesome!!

Nice finds ATW! 1909 first year of issue, and congrats on the silver! HH

I usually take the brass home and toss it into a tub. A piece of brass that size would be difficult to transport on my bike.
I left it for Sanitation to pick up. I'm sure they will put it towards their Christmas Party. lol

Nice finds, congratulations. I bet there is more silver to be had with all those wheat cents. :occasion14:

A great day of detecting! Congrats. -Lisa & John

I'm quite familiar with the old saying,, "Where there is Wheat,, There is Silver" but I have found a few areas with an unusual high amount of wheat pennies and no silver coins.
That has me thinking that someone went through there and focused on higher numbers or high pitched signals. (Cherry Picked) I usually dig anything deep.
