Wound up getting the Minelab Equinox 800. Was very active as a young person with a whites xlt, found gold, silver, early copper coins, cannonball and much more. Got away from the hobby during, after college, working etc.

Anyhow, got the nox 800 today went right out. Hit some city lots near downtown Columbus. Both with history back to the 1800s including one area that has been a park since 1919.

forgot how much of a workout this can be, and reminded of how out of shape I am. The spots were extremely extremely trashy and were loaded with gravel (prior to a becoming the circus grounds in 1919 the area was the city's gravel pit). Tough sledding.

on the city lots I found just a few pennies, a dime and what looks like an early token. Has 8 sides, or had, it is damaged as you can see. All I can see are dots around the outside. Was happy to pull something old. Also dug this huge piece of copper gutter or downspout, probably from the houses that were on this lot ages ago. Was down about 12" and I couldn't figure out what it was so just kept digging.

Ran into another digger as well! These spots have been hard hit to say the least.

Came home and went out in my circa 1930 lawn and found a bunch of Lincoln memorial cents, a dime and two quarters in 45 min. No gravel! No silver but my four year old thought this was amazing.

Pretty day and nice spot to hunt

Eight sided token or coin, dearly wish I could see more detail.
Came up a 15 on the minelab 800 if memory serves me right.
Looks early.

Salvatore... congrats on MANY levels! For getting through college and then getting back into the hobby. I had bought a Whites rig in 2000 and about the time I got it somewhat figured out, twins show up... my hiatus was 13 years but it was so nice to start swinging again. I live in Lancaster... 25 minutes away, we need to get hooked up and sling some dirt! Ddf...

I too, hunted in the 80's with a White's 6000D, all in town. After 30 yrs. I'm back at it with an AT Pro and out in the country hunting farm fields. Much harder to find a coin in the country. City folks had all the money! Gary

Thanks very much for the site pics, looks like a peaceful location to hunt... you must've been there early though! :laughing7:

Too much trash is the main reason why, like Gary above, I now only detect farm fields.

Best of luck to you Sal,
Dave

Thats good to see I also have been slowed down alot 2 Girls I thought it would be easier once they got to College noe Ill have to wait till they are done, I still get out some but gotta work alot to pay for them. Keep posting those cool finds

Alright! Something from OHIO! Congrats on getting back out there. I never noticed any detectorists until I joined this site. I can still count the number I've seen on one hand. :laughing9: Being that you are in/around Columbus and Camp Chase was located there, I hope to see you post some CW era finds!

Welcome back to the hobby. Do you think there's a chance your 8 sided token or coin, could be the upper part of an old automobile key ?

Glad you are back out detecting! :occasion14:

I'm betting that token is aluminum. There are a couple of 8-sided aluminum Ohio tokens on eBay now, a Strikers 10 cent (33 mm), and a bottle refund token (26.4 mm).
