Found a 1919 Merc today in a schoolyard, along with about $8.00 in clad and assorted cheap jewelry.
Found a 1980 SBA dollar the first step I took, then 3 quarters and 5 dimes in the next 5 steps, so I knew I found me a big old fat undetected virgin.
Sure wasn't expecting the merc at this place - Don't think its that old, and I was finding typical school stuff up until then.
Thats one of the great things about the hobby - You just never know.
I was about 5 inches down under 1 inche of wood chips, an inch or so of hard packed wet sand, and 3 inches of muddy clay like soil.
Didn't get the chance to properly check this place as I started just about an hour before dark.
I was getting so many quarter and dime hits I started ignoring the pennies and nickels , so yes I shall return and see what other good might lie within.
Final haul for that place - 15 quarters, 32 dimes,6 nickels,14 pennies a SBA dollar and 1919 merc.

Great job !! ;D WTG!!

Sounds like this school has never been detected. That a great haul.

Silverrrrrr, ALahaahhhhhhahhh!

HH!!

I think if I ever find a SBA dollar I will fall over.

So what are the telltale signs of an undetected virgin? Other than you find a lot of coins. Just the luck of the draw?

I am still trying to find pre-65 silver. Haven't found a single one EVER.

Mike

The heck with Susan B... let's talk Liberty, Trade, Morgan and Peace dollars! ;D

I would think the odds would be better of finding one of those. At least those WERE used once. Has anyone ever used a SBA dollar?

I think the only ones who use them are the US Post Offices... pop a ten dollar bill into the stamp machine and guess what you get backin change?

Susan B's & Sacajawea's...

Mike - Yeah an undetected site makes itself apparent quickly with multiple quarter/dime hits out in the open.
If all your finding is pennies and nickels under slides ect you can assume its been detected.
Of course it might be a low traffic area also and people simply aren't losing change there.
You can often tell a detected woodchip site as the disturbed woodchips where people were digging are easy to spot, and some idiots dig big woodchip holes and don't even bother to fill them back in.

As far as SBA's, I use them every now and then.
I get rolls from the bank sometimes and check them for errors/nice specimens, then proceed to put the majority back into circualtion as cigarette money ect.
