Got up early again and made the long trip to the park where I found the SLQ last week and merc and ring last Friday. I wanted to concentrate around the scout house that I was told about. There was a lot of trash where the cabin used to sit so I slowed down and took my time looking for signals that was masked with the trash. I got one good penny signal that was also reading trash. I dug about 6" and the pinpointer said it was still in the hole. So I dug about a 2" plug out and seen that it was a penny. I couldn't tell if it was an Indian head or a wheat but I knew it was not a memorial. I gently rubbed the back and could tell it was a wheat. Several pieces of trash was also in the hole. I also found a lead ball. I was about a mile from some known civil war activity but I had no idea I was going to find anything in the park. I also found some brass piece that I am unsure about. I did not hunt too long as the rains forced me to my car a couple of times. The wheat turned out to be 1944 after I cleaned it up some.

Nicely done my friend!
Randy, I'm telling you, as much as you research, I can't wait to see what you'll find this fall. Civil war detecting is very tough and it's what we love to do! Not everyone understands what we mean when we say we can't hunt the woods this time of year. But come this fall....it's on again!

So in the meantime, we hunt the parks to satisfy our cravings.

See ya club brother

Thanks Mike. I can't wait until this fall so we can concentrate more on civil war finds. Man this hobby addicting. I can't wait until we can hunt that Confederate camp and all the other spots we have researched. So for now I am mainly looking for sites that have the opportunity to produce silver and other old finds. See you soon.

Awesome finds :icon_thumright:
