Hey everyone,

Got out early Saturday morning with my Dad for his first hunt.

He has never used a detector before for more than 5 minutes or so.

The heat has been really brutal lately. It's 95 here today.

We went to one of my spots in the woods. He didn't make any finds but he was finding metal.

So that was a good sign. The terrain is very rough and rugged here. He couldn't handle it to Long and headed out of these woods and hit some grassy area's.

He's 52 I'm 25 so I understood.

I stayed in the woods along a nice little creek. Picking up trash and the occasional relic.

About 10 minutes into the hunt I dug the wheat and the buffalo like one after another.

We spent about 2 hrs there because the heat is just to much.

After about a hr or so into the hunt I get a really nice signal at 6.5 inches. I dig it out check the pile it's out.

I knew it was a good target before I even recovered it. I swept away some dirt and saw a small grey disc. I knew it was silver. All the silver and coins from this area are ruff for the most part.

The dime was a low mintage 3.4 million 1905 O mint mark barber. If it wasn't all eaten up it would have been in pretty good shape.

We met back up and decided it was enough for the day.

I wanted to go out Sunday but the heat is unreal. You have to be out at like 6 am or at like 7 pm.

When this heat wave gets over I'll get back out.

Thanks for looking,

HH Jer

Great finds as usual bud! Your ground certainly does a number to old silver! What a shame!

Congratulation on the Barber dime! I bet it was exciting to pull that out of the ground. :)

Congrats on getting out with your Dad and a nice silver, looks like it will clean up. You might want to take your Dad to a nice easy pickins park or something, relic hunting can be really discouraging to a newbie, LOL! HH, Mike

Hey, in 9 more years I'll be 52 and Nate will be 25. Wonder if Nate will still be swinging that DFX then.

Congratulations on the Barber. Nice find. Hope your dad finds something other than metal. :D

I'll bet the "old fellow" is tougher than you think! He's just smarter! Gee, I wish I was 52 again. I just turned 62 and know better than to stay out in that heat all day. When I was 25 I would have stayed until I could barely crawl but that was a bunch of years ago. I'm still 25 inside this old guys body looking out! Congratulations on getting your Dad out to hunt with you. I have just the opposite problem, trying to get one of my sons to go with me. If they ever went I would probably get into trouble with their wives when they become addicted! That's OK, just keep bringing the grandkids over. Nice finds as usual. Monty

Thanks everyone,

It was pretty cool hunting with my Dad.

We have always wanted to but he couldn't afford a detector. Or when he could he had other bills.

It took him about 2 or 3 yrs. That's a long time to wait.

He loved his unit and can't wait to learn it. I'm a good person to help teach though.

He's still tough Monty.

I like to mess with him though.

He can't beleive I find coins were I do.

He said detecting after one of my outings was harder than construction work. I work hard at it.

Hey Mirage, You never know. These units will last 20 yrs if taken care of properly. I'm sure he'll have you upgrade his unit before he moves out.

Thanks again everyone,

HH Jeremy
